THE body of a 35-year-old married man was found last night after two caravans were burnt out at a halting site in Ballymun, in what appear to be suspicious circumstances.

Gardai said they are keeping "an open mind" about the cause of the fire, but the scene was being preserved pending the arrival of forensic experts.

The fire started in one caravan at about 11 p.m. at a halting site near Musgrave's wholesale depot in Ballymun industrial estate. It spread quickly to other caravans on the site, completely destroying a second.

After an initial inspection of the scene a Garda spokesman said the fire may have been caused by a stove, but added later that there "could be more to this".

The name of the dead man was not being released last night. Gardai said they initially could not identify the body due to the extent of the injuries. Locals told gardai that a second person might have been in the caravan, but a search established that there was only one body.

Members of the dead man's family were at the scene last night. Gardai said the man and his wife had no children.
