A man is today due to appear before Dublin District Court to face extradition to Spain in relation to the death of his wife during a holiday in Marbella.

Mr Michael "Dermot" McArdle (32), originally from Dundalk, Co Louth, is to appear in Dublin District Court.

His wife, Kelly-Anne, fell from a fourth-floor balcony during a holiday nearly two years ago. It was thought the mother-of-two died accidentally in the fall on February 13th, 2000.

Spanish police began an investigation into the death, which happened on the first day of the couple's week-long holiday.

Spanish authorities have now requested Mr McArdle's extradition so they can question him.

They issued a warrant for his arrest, which was executed yesterday morning by detectives from the extradition section in Dublin.

Mr McArdle spent last night in custody.
