A Waterford man died while checking for survivors of a fire in his home. On re-entering the house at O'Reilly Road in the city, Mr Cyril Power, who lived there with his mother, brothers and sisters, could not escape. The fire broke out at about 2.30 a.m. yesterday. It is understood Mr Power was checking for one of his brothers but he was not at home at the time, according to rescue services. Waterford fire brigade fought the fire which destroyed the ground floor in the two-storey terraced house. The cause was unknown and nobody else was injured, a fire brigade spokesman said.
