A man has died in a road crash in Co Limerick this evening.
The collision involving two cars happened at about 6.10pm on the Adare to Limerick N21 road, at Monearla, four miles outside Limerick city.
The male driver (53) of one car was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood the man, a French national, had pulled in to the side of the road when travelling towards Limerick to change a tyre. He had changed the tyre and was inspecting the car when he was hit by a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The man's wife, who is also French and who was in the car at the time, and the driver of the second car were taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
It is understood that the French couple had been living in Limerick for a number of years.
The road has been closed for a forensic examination, and diversions are in place. Witnesses are asked to contact the gardaí in Adare on 061 396216 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666111.
