A man has died after his car he was driving entered the River Shannon in Killaloe, Co Clare, early this morning.
Gardaí said the car slipped off riverbank into the river and the man's body was recovered at approximately 5.30am.
Efforts by witnesses and gardaí to save the man were unsuccessful. The Killaloe-based Coast Guard and Fire Services also attended the scene.
His body was taken by ambulance to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where he was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today.
