Man dies after Thurles assault

A 25-year-old man who was injured in a random attack after a weekend night out in Thurles, Co Tipperary has died.

A 25-year-old man who was injured in a random attack after a weekend night out in Thurles, Co Tipperary has died.

James Tynan (25) from Johnstown, Co Kilkenny, was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital after the assault, which occurred in Liberty Square, Thurles, Co Tipperary, at about 1.30am on Sunday.

He was punched outside a nightclub and hit his head on the ground as he fell.

A 22-year-old man from Templemore, Co Tipperary, was questioned by gardaí under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He remains in Garda custody.
