The owner of a Chinese take-away in Belfast was alleged yesterday to have brought a man from Hong Kong to murder his pregnant lover. Mr Wing Chun Yuen (36), of Grangewood Crescent, Dundonald, east Belfast, denies murdering Ms Mi Yo-Ho (29), who was found strangled in her home at Isoline Street, Willowfield, in June 1998.

When Mr Yuen applied for bail in the High Court, a Crown lawyer said a DNA test confirmed that he was father of the victim's unborn child. "He had a motive to kill her because she was putting pressure on him to divorce his wife but he was not prepared to do so as she was also pregnant with twins." He said police believed Ms Yo was murdered by a man called Wong who was brought over from Hong Kong by Mr Yuen. There was evidence the defendant met the man at the airport and took him back after the murder. The lawyer said Mr Yuen was arrested last May after he returned to Northern Ireland to tidy up his financial affairs. Bail was refused by Mr Justice Sheil.
