A man (27) is in a critical condition in hospital in Dublin after he was attacked early this morning.

The man, who is believed to be a Polish national, was discovered on the roadway in the Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock at about 5am.

The victim, who was on his way to work nearby, had serious injuries. He was transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

A Garda spokesman appealed for anyone who was on the Malahide Road between the Hilton hotel and the Darndale roundabout between 4am and 5am to contact Coolock Garda station on 01-6664200.

Gardaí say they would particularly like to speak to taxi drivers or delivery drivers who may have had business in the industrial estate during this time.
