A man (21) is due before Limerick District Court this morning charged in connection with the death of another man following an assault.

Stanislaw Stokowski, a Polish national with an address on Lord Edward Street, Limerick, is charged with assaulting Mateusz Sabik (20), also Polish, causing him harm on September 30th last at Little Ellen Street, Limerick.

Mr Sabik, with an address at Alphonsus Street in Limerick city, died at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital last Monday just over a week after the alleged assault.

At a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night, Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded Mr Stokowski in custody until today.

He also granted Mr Stokowski time to provide an address that would satisfy gardaí.
