A Wexford man who suffered serious brain and eye injuries when the car in which he was a passenger crashed and overturned is to receive £1.25 million damages agreed at the High Court yesterday.

A separate action by the same man arising from a rail accident, in which he lost both legs and an arm, was adjourned. Yesterday's award arose out of injuries sustained by Mr Darren Busher (26), of Ferndale Park, Wexford, following a road accident on the Enniscorthy to Ballymurn road on October 15th, 1992. The award was approved by Mr Justice Barr who told Mr Busher, a former hotel kitchen worker, that the sum was an "excellent settlement".

Mr Sean Ryan SC, for Mr Busher, undertook to apply to the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Morris, to have his client made a ward of court.

A second action for damages by Mr Busher against Iarnrod Eireann and Wexford Harbour Commissioners arising from an accident in Wexford town on August 1st, 1994, was adjourned to the wardship hearing.
