Scottish police travelled to Northern Ireland tonight to arrest a man suspected of having made a hoax bomb threat against an Irish sea ferry.

The man in his 30s was detained in the Belfast area by officers from Dumfries and Galloway accompanied by members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The bomb threat was made against a Stena HSS fast ferry at Stranraer before it set off for Belfast on May 31.

It is understood the arrested man comes from the Belfast area.

Arrangements were being made to take him back to Scotland for questioning.
