Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the death of a man and a youhng girl whose bodies were found in a house in Clonmel, Co Tipperary this afternoon.

They are believed to be father and daughter, although a formal identification has yet to be made.

The bodies were discovered by gardaí who forced their way into a house called Croan Lodge on the Calville Road just after after 3 p.m.

A gun was found at the scene.

It is understood the girl was six years old and was at the centre of a recent abduction case.

The State Pathologist Dr John Harbison is at the house, which has been sealed off for forensic examination.
