A Dublin man has changed his plea and admitted the manslaughter of a man kicked unconscious during a fight in Basin Street flats in 1997.

Derek Wade (19), of Church Avenue South, Rialto, was re-arraigned before a jury in the Central Criminal Court. He pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Mr William Cahill (28), at Mary Aikenhead House, James's Street, Dublin, between June 7th and 11th, 1997. Mr Cahill died in hospital three days later.

When Wade was re-arraigned, Mr Justice Smith adjourned sentencing on the manslaughter charge until April 16th next.
