Man (79) killed in Cork road crash

Gardaí in Cork are investigating a single-vehicle crash in which a 79-year-old man died this afternoon.

Gardaí in Cork are investigating a single-vehicle crash in which a 79-year-old man died this afternoon.

The crash occurred on the N72 on the Rathmore side of the Mallow to Killarney Road.

The man is believed to have lost control of the car. His body was removed to Cork University Hospital.

The man is the ninth person to die on the State's roads in 2007.

The road has been closed for up to two or three hours, and diversions are in place at Cloonbannon Cross and Churchill Cross.
