A 73-year-old Co Donegal man is recovering in hospital from multiple injuries after being badly assaulted outside his isolated home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The attack, described by gardai as brutal, occurred at Lismonaghan, about 11/2 miles from Letterkenny. It is believed two youths attacked the man and tied him to a chair while they searched the house. It is not known if anything was taken in the attack, which occurred at around midnight, but gardai believe it had the hallmarks of an aggravated burglary. The man managed to free himself and alert a neighbour at about 1.30 a.m.
