Man (31) remanded on stabbing charges

A man has been remanded in custody over the stabbing of two doctors at a psychiatric hospital in Limerick yesterday.

A man has been remanded in custody over the stabbing of two doctors at a psychiatric hospital in Limerick yesterday.

Anthony McMahon (31), of Raheen Square, Ballincurra Weston, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court on two charges of assault causing harm at St Anne's Day Hospital.

Mr McMahon was granted free legal aid. His solicitor said he was not making an application for bail.

Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded Mr McMahon in custody until January 24th when he will again appear before Limerick District Court.

Psychiatrist Dr Anamath Pullela and psychologist Dr Kathleen Burns were both attacked at St Anne's Psychiatric Day Hospital yesterday afternoon. Dr Pullela, who was transferred from the Mid-Western Regional Hospital to Cork University Hospital, was in a serious but stable condition today.

Ms Burns is "comfortable" in the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
