Magherafelt mart to close

The livestock mart in Magherafelt, Co Derry, is to close at the end of the month. The auctioneer, Joseph Allen, said the closure was due to adverse trading conditions. Mr Dick Agnew, secretary of the South Derry Farmers' Union branch, said yesterday the BSE crisis had led to a dramatic reduction in the numbers of cattle going through the sales yard.
