London - The son of Lord Lucan has been released on police bail after being arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a former girlfriend, it emerged yesterday. George Charles Bingham (31), who holds the courtesy title of Lord Bingham, was detained last week after the author, Ms Imogen Brewer, complained to police.

Lord Lucan has been missing since November 1974, after accusations that he killed his children's nanny, Sandra Rivett.
