The Labour Relations Commission has invited both sides in the paramedics dispute to talks tomorrow. IMPACT, which represents most of the 3,500 workers involved, has given strike notice for next Monday.

Yesterday, at the launch of a joint publication by IMPACT and the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists on the work of speech therapists, $o"re Than Just Words, Ms Mary Fanning, of IMPACT, said many patients were having to wait up to two years for treatment because of staff shortages in the health services.

She said pay and conditions were so poor many highly qualified house specialists were emigrating.
