Limerick man appears in court charged with murder

A 35-year-old man has appeared before Limerick District Court charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city.

A 35-year-old man has appeared before Limerick District Court charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city.

Andrew Fitzgerald from Catherine Street in Limerick city, was charged with the murder of Rory Burke at Little Glentworth Street, Limerick, on April 27th last.

Mr Burke (25) died after a stabbing incident in a laneway off Davis Street in the city at around 11pm last Tuesday night.

Det Sgt Niall Fitzpatrick gave evidence of arresting and charging Andrew Fitzgerald on Wednesday afternoon at Roxboro Garda Station.

The court heard that Mr Fitzgerald made no reply when cautioned.

Judge Tom O'Donnell granted the accused free legal aid and remanded him in custody for one week, until May 5th next.

Solicitor for Mr Fitzgerld, Aeneas McCarthy said he would be applying for bail for his client in the High Court.

Dressed in a beige top with black shaved hair, Mr Fitzgerald remained silent throughout yesterday's brief court hearing.
