The owner of the Kowloon Bridge wreck, which lies submerged below the rocks at Toe Head in west Cork, was rescued by Courtmacsherry lifeboat early yesterday after getting into difficulties while attempting a single handed crossing from the Scilly Isles to west Cork.

It is now 10 years since the iron ore carrier foundered off Toe Head, and its cargo is still in the holds of the vessel. Mr Sean Kent, a scrap dealer in England, acquired the wreck for a nominal sum but failed in his attempt to raise it. He was in a 9.5 metre rigid inflatable, near Galley Head, when he called for assistance. He was picked by the lifeboat at 5 a.m.
