The Premier League and Football League tonight began legal proceedings in a bid to block the players' strike.
Although the leagues are still hoping for a negotiated settlement, the shortage of time before the proposed industrial action on December 1st has led them to serve notice on the Professional Footballers' Association.
A hearing at the High Court will now take place next week when a judge will rule whether the strike is legal. PA
