Leeds United are through to the UEFA Cup second round following a 1-1 draw away to Zaporozhie in their first round second leg clash today.

Irakli Modebadze scored a first-half goal for the hosts, with Nick Barmby equalising to give Leeds a 2-1 aggregate win.

Both teams started cautiously, with Leeds then seizing the initiative as they searched for an all important away goal but Zaporozhie's defence was up to the job.

In the 24th minute however the deadlock was broken.

Modebadze netted with a header over Leeds' goalkeeper Paul Robinson, after fellow Brazilian teammate Fabio's shot from the edge of the box hit the woodwork.

Leeds responded positively, peppering Zaporozhie 'keeper Andrei Glushchenko with shots but to no immediate avail.After the interval Leeds continued to dominate but their attacking efforts remained fruitless against a surprisingly sturdy defence.

However, Zaporozhie were unable to stop Barmby's header, 12 minutes from time, after Alan Smith's shot was defelcted into his path.
