Leas Cross home to shut doors for last time

The Dublin nursing home which was the subject of an undercover RTE expose is to close its doors today.

Leas Cross in Swords was de-registered by the Health Services Executive (HSE) last month after it was found to be in breach of regulations.

Its owner, John Aherne, announced that the home would close today.

The 90 elderly residents have all been transferred to new accommodation by the HSE, with the final 15 moving out last weekend.

Leas Cross came under fire after RTE's Prime Timeinvestigative programme revealed footage of what appeared to be an elderly woman restrained in a chair against her will, a care worker harassing a resident and other incidents.

The Government has confirmed all deaths which occurred at the nursing home, or patients who died immediately after they were transferred from it, would be independently investigated.
