The late-night weekend DART service planned by Iarnrod Eireann which was due to begin tonight, has been cancelled.
The service which was to be introduced on an experimental basis would have seen DART trains operating into the early hours of the morning this weekend and next, in an operation similar to the Dublin Bus Nite Link service. Iarnrod Eireann spokesman Mr Barry Kenny said the decision to cancel the service was taken after the company failed to reach agreement with the drivers on the implementation of the service. Mr Kenny said it was particularly disappointing that the service could not be introduced now to provide the public with an alternative form of transport in the Christmas rush.
