"DISTURBED" is how Met Eireann describes the weather at the beginning and end of July, although things were better in the middle of the month when it was "warm and dry".

The east had the sunniest July for six years, although several weather stations reported the coldest July in a long time.

In its analysis of weather patterns for the month, the meteorological service noted that it was a drier than normal month in most places.

At Cork Airport there was no measurable rainfall between the 7th and 20th, although rain returned to all areas on the 21st, with some places experiencing exceptionally heavy showers.

Winds were moderate during the month, the strongest being in the first four days and last two days. Belmullet, Co Mayo recorded the highest gust at 45 knots an hour on the 2nd.
