The Labour Party has flatly rejected a suggestion that it could form a Government with Fine Gael and the Progressive Democrats in advance of a general election.

The proposal, made at the weekend by the Fine Gael Dublin European Parliament candidate, Mr Jim Mitchell, would have involved the PDs leaving the present Government to form a new coalition with the main Opposition parties.
