Vienna - The Austrian Chancellor, Dr Viktor Klima, commenting yesterday on international reaction to Sunday's election, said he rejected the portrayal of Austria as an extreme right-wing country because of the polling results.

Mr Jorg 27.2 per cent of the vote, behind the Social Democrats but ahead of the conservative People's Party.

Israel said on Wednesday it would reassess relations with Austria if the Freedom Party was part of the next government. The chancellor rejected such "threats" and said Austria had proved since 1945 that it was a reliable international partner.
