SEOUL - President Kim Young sam of South Korea faced an uphill battle to redeem his own public image as his son spent his first day in prison yesterday on bribery charges.

The arrest on Saturday of Mr Kim Hyunchul on charges of taking bribes worth millions of dollars marked the beginning of the end of an inquiry into pervasive graft exposed by the multi billion dollar collapse of a leading steelmaker.
