Harry Kewell has beaten Leeds United and Australia team mate Mark Viduka by four votes to win the 2001 Oceania Footballer-of-the-Year Award.

The Oceania Football Confederation said Kewell, 23, polled 87 votes to Viduka's 83.

Australians took the top five places with Brett Emerton, Craig Moore and Mark Schwarzer, followed by Tahiti's Maramas Vahirua, who plays for French club Nantes, in sixth place.

Kewell was 1999 Oceania player of the year and was runner-up to Viduka in 2000.
