A District Court judge today declared that an alleged case of possessing child pornography was too serious to be tried in his court.

Judge Humphrey Kelleher declined jurisdiction in his court at Killarney, Co Kerry, in the case of a 31-year-old man whose address was among more than 100 raided by Irish police in a nationwide move against child pornography activities codenamed Operation Amethyst last May.

Mr Silvano Taddei, of Andrea Lodge, Ross Road, Killarney, Co Kerry, has been charged with knowingly having in his possession images of children in pornographic poses on his computer under the terms of Ireland's Child Trafficking and Pornography Act.

The case against restaurant worker Mr Taddei, which could be tried at Circuit Court level, was adjourned until May 20th.
