Gardaí in Co Leitrim have arrested a juvenile in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man in Carrick-on-Shannon in the early hours of this morning.

The juvenile is being held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and is being detained at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station.

Gardaí were called to the house at Breffni Crescent just before 1 a.m. following reports of a domestic dispute at the house. Gardaí found the man with stab wounds on the landing of the house. They also recovered a knife which is believed was used in the stabbing.

The man received medical attention from a doctor and medical team but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man's body remains at the scene, which is being preserved for technical examination. Acting deputy State pathologist Dr Margot Bolster is due to carry out a post mortem examination later today.
