Spending will exceed £1 billion in this area for the first time. The Garda budget will rise from £580 million to £671 million. This includes £2 million for a computerised on-the-spot fine system and £1 million for other traffic law enforcement equipment. There is substantial additional spending on prisons, including the funding of an educational and training programme to help young offenders.
