A judge renewed the licences of five Kilmallock, Co Limerick, publicans yesterday after he was told there were no further complaints and that Travellers had been sold drink on the premises since the previous court hearing on December 1st.

an O'Leary was told by Mr Garry O'Halloran, counsel for the objectors, at Limerick Circuit Court, that it would appear that the cudgels of exclusion of travellers had been taken up by other licencees in the town, which indicated that the policy of exclusion was continuing.

Judge Sean O'Leary warned that if he heard of any further complaints of publicans refusing service to Travellers in future, he would take a serious view of it.

The court had heard objections from the McDonagh family, members of the Travelling community living at Riverview Estate, Kilmallock, against the renewal of licences to five publicans in the town, Mr James Lynch, Sarsfield Street; Mr Michael Houlihan, Main Street; Ms Bella Dunne, Sarsfield Street; Mr Ivan Whitley, Sarsfield Street; and Mr William Howard, Lord Edward Street.
