A MAN who seriously assaulted his live in girlfriend over a 10 day period has been jailed for three years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Patrick Hogan attacked the woman with a poker, his fists and feet and slashed her face with a razor in the belief she had some kind of relationship with another man, his counsel, Mr Laurence Wyer, said.
Garda Sean Kerr told Mr John Whelan, prosecuting, that the couple had lived together for seven years. He threatened to kill her and told her he wished she was dead.
Hogan (32), a former taxi driver, of Killinarden Heights, Dublin, admitted two charges of assaulting the woman on dates from December 28th, 1994 to January 5th, 1995, occasioning her actual bodily harm.
He also pleaded guilty to using a poker with intent to intimidate on January 5th, 1995. He had no previous convictions apart from road traffic matters.
Mr Wyer said his client's father died a fortnight ago and his taxi was now available to Hogan who had been unemployed for some time. Hogan bitterly regretted his actions.
