Judge criticises temporary release

Temporary release made nonsense of the work of judges and gardai and was cruel to the prisoner, a judge said yesterday.

Temporary release made nonsense of the work of judges and gardai and was cruel to the prisoner, a judge said yesterday.

Judge Gillian Hussey was speaking in the case of Bridget Connors (22), of Glin Park, Priorswood, Dublin, who had been given temporary release after being sentenced on June 28th.

"Letting her out on temporary release is a cruel thing to do. They are just closing the door on someone who's not able to cope with her life. It's a cruel thing to do to someone who needs support," she told Kilmainham District Court.

Judge Hussey remanded Connors in custody to July 12th.
