The royal editor of the News of the Worldwill appear in court today to face charges of mobile phone tapping.
Clive Goodman, who has been suspended from his job at the Sunday newspaper, is due at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, in central London.
The reporter has been charged with one count of conspiring to intercept voicemail messages and eight counts of intercepting voicemail messages.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between January 3rd and August 9th this year.
Glenn Mulcaire, 35, from Sutton, has also been charged in connection with the allegations and will appear at the same court.
Mr Goodman, 48, from Putney, south London, was at the centre of an inquiry held by anti-terror detectives at Scotland Yard.
It followed claims by members of the Prince of Wales' household that security breaches had taken place within its phone network.
A number of addresses were searched by police, including the offices of News International in Wapping, east London, as well as addresses in Sutton and Chelsea.
The police inquiry is now said to have widened and is examining whether other public figures may also have had their mobiles hacked.
Both men are on police bail.
