Tesco will create 220 new jobs in Drogheda today with the opening of a new store in the town.

Tesco will create 220 new jobs in Drogheda today with the opening of a new store in the town.

Located in the Rathmullan Business Centre, just off the M1 motorway, the new store is Tesco Ireland’s 15th new premises opened this year.

It will be the second shop in Drogheda and fourth in County Louth where 460 people are employed by the chain.

Local TD and Justice Minister Dermot Ahern said the new jobs were a major boost to the economy of the area.

“This is Tesco’s fourth store alone in Louth and they are to be commended for their commitment to their store opening programme and to job creation,” he added.

Tesco Ireland employs some 13,500 people.

Chief executive Tony Keohane said the new opening marks a significant milestonefor the firm which has filled 1,000 new positions in the last 11 months.

“We are also supporting a number of local suppliers and producers who will supply products to this store and to many others throughout the country,” he added.
