A racing scene painted by Jack Butler Yeats fetched over £1 million sterling at auction in London today.

A racing scene painted by Jack Butler Yeats fetched over £1 million sterling at auction in London today.

"The Whistle of a Jacket", showing a horse being urged past the post and painted in 1946, realised the highest price at Christie's sixth annual Irish sale.

It sold for £1,103,750 to Simon Dickinson Limited, trade buyers based in London.

The artist died in 1957.
