Notwithstanding negative test results, health authorities in Pescara yesterday confirmed a slaughter order on 392 sheep suspected of having contracted foot-and mouth disease, Paddy Agnew reports from Rome. Following tests at a veterinary laboratory it was confirmed the sheep had a much less serious viral infection. Mouth blisters, typical of animals infected with the disease, had been noticed on the sheep imported from France.
