A 30-acre island off the coast of Connemara is being offered as the prize in a draw on the Internet. The draw is open only to entrants in the United States.

Bior Mor Island, or Birmore, is a 20-minute boat ride from Carna and it has been uninhabited since two families moved to the mainland in the 1930s.

It was bought last year by a US company headed by Mr Philip Middleton, a South African entrepreneur. Tickets cost $25 and the draw takes place in April next year.
