Irish troops will serve with the United Nations peacekeeping force in East Timor for another 18 months, the Cabinet decided yesterday.

Nearly 50 soldiers are attached to the UN force, Interfet, on a six-month tour. A unit from the Army Rangers Wing was the first to serve there from October 1999.
