DR FERGUS O'Ferrall has been appointed to The Irish TimesTrust.
He is Adelaide lecturer in health policy at Trinity College, Dublin. He has held the positions of chief executive of Macra Na Feirme and director of the National Bible Society of Ireland and the Adelaide Hospital Society.
He is a member of the board of the Adelaide Meath Hospital Dublin, incorporating the National Children’s Hospital.
He has been president of the National Youth Council of Ireland and chairman of The Wheel, the co-ordinating body for the community and voluntary sector.
Dr O’Ferrall has published works on health policy including Citizenship and Public Service: Voluntary and Statutory Relationships in Irish Healthcare. He co-edited Medical Ethics and the Future of Healthcare.
He is also a historian and author of studies on the career of Daniel O’Connell, including Catholic Emancipation: Daniel O’Connell and the Birth of Irish Democracy 1820-1830.
He recently co-edited the atlas on Longford town for the Royal Irish Academy Irish Historic Towns Atlas series.
He is originally from Abbeyderg in Co Longford and lives in Dublin.
