After a wonderful day for Irish boxing Darren Sutherland will attempt to become the third Irish boxer to be guaranteed an Olympic medal when he takes on Venezuela's Alfonso Blanco Parra at the Worker's Gymnasium tomorrow.

Sutherland will attempt to emulate today's efforts of Irish captain Kenny Egan and Paddy Barnes, who both won their respective quarter-final bouts in convincing style. Sutherland's Middleweight quarter-final encounter gets underway at 1.01pm tomorrow.

It has become something of a lottery predicting the sailing schedule at Qingdao because there has been so many postponements to the Olympic regatta due to poor conditions.

However, if all goes according to plan, and conditions are suitable for sailing, then the Irish pair of Peter O'Leary and Stephen Milne will take to the water at 4am for Races 8, 9 and 10 of the Star Keelboat series. Today's action was cancelled.

Thomas Chamney will be the first Irish athlete to race on the track and field schedule at the Bird's Nest. The Dubliner will line-out in Heat 1 of the men's 800 metres at noon.

Alistair Cragg is the only other Irish athlete in action tomorrow when he lines out in Heat 1 of his favoured 5000m at 1.15pm. Cragg looked disappointingly out of sorts when he failed to advance in the 1500m last week.

On Thursday attentions will turn to Hong Kong where Irish rider Denis Lynch has high hopes of a medal in the Individual Show Jumping final. The equestrian action gets underway at 12.15pm. If Lynch continues to show the kind of form he has up to now, then he will take his place in the Individual medals round from 5.10pm.

If results go their way on Wednesday O'Leary and Milne will hope to compete in the final medal race on Thursday with action on the water beginning at 6am.

Olive Loughnane will compete in the women's 20km walk from noon on Thursday and if Chamney advances he will return to the Bird's Nest on Thursday for the semi-final final of the men's 800m.
