An Irish businessman is reported to have bid nearly £4 million for a third of Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales.

The British National Trust heritage body had hoped to announce today the purchase of the 4,118 acre estate which includes Snowdon's highest peak as they had made a bid of more than £3 million. Mr Warren Davies, a National Trust spokesman, said he understood the other bid is from "a wealthy businessman in Ireland who flies over Snowdon when he comes to England".
