Man in serious condition after Wexford beach rescue

A man in his mid-20s is in a serious condition in hospital after being rescued from the sea off Co Wexford yesterday.

The man got into difficulty while swimming at Duncannon Beach shortly after 7pm last night.

A unit of Fethard Coast Guard was sent to the scene but the man had already been pulled from the water and was receiving medical attention when they arrived.

He was taken by ambulance to Waterford University Hospital where he is receiving treatment. His condition is believed to be serious.

The rescue comes after the deaths of a 5-year-old boy and a teenager in separate drowning incidents in Dublin and Cavan on Monday.

Ahmed Bari (5) died after falling into a pond in Tyrrelstown in Dublin after being reported missing earlier that morning.

The body of a 16-year-old boy who had been swimming with friends at a lake in Killykeen Forest Park in Co Cavan was also recovered from the water on Monday.
