Increase in traffic volume on roads compared to last week, figures show

Traffic on commuter belt into Dublin increased by between two and six per cent

There has been an increase in the volumes of traffic on the roads, compared to last week, according to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) figures.

Morning traffic volume on roads from the commuter belt into Dublin has increased by between two and six per cent in the last week, while the number of cars on the M50 increased by nine per cent.

Similarly, traffic on key routes in Galway, Waterford and Limerick is up by eight per cent, and five per cent in Cork, compared to the same time last week.

Despite the recent increase on last week, the traffic volumes recorded were between 10 and 20 per cent below pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

The TII data is based on figures from a sample of traffic counters on national roads, taken between 7am and 10am every Wednesday.
