Gardaí seize €1 million worth of ‘fake Uggs’ in Cork

Gardaí and customs have seized suspected counterfeit Ugg boots worth over €1million in Cork.

Two men were arrested after customs officers raided an industrial unit in Hollyhill at around 10.30am yesterday and found the counterfeit Uggs and fake labels.

The two men, aged 59 and 29 and from the northside of Cork city, were arrested at the warehouse on suspicion of breaching the Trade Marks Act.

Twenty gardaí, including members of Cork City Divisional Fraud Unit, Garda Regional Support Unit and detectives and uniformed gardaí from Gurranabraher were involved in the raid.

Gardaí preserved the scene and began examining the seized merchandise overnight.

The two men were brought to Gurranebraher Garda Station where they were held and questioned for eleven hours before being released without charge at 9.30pm last night.

Gardaí are liaising with foreign police forces to try and establish the origin of the suspected fake goods.

A file is being prepared for the DPP.
