Belfast police return to scene of loyalist shooting

John Boreland was shot on August 7th as he got out of car near Sunningdale Gardens

Detectives investigating the murder of prominent loyalist John Boreland in north Belfast returned to the scene last night for renewed house-to-house inquiries.

Mr Boreland (46) was shot a number of times as he got out of his car to walk to his flat in Sunningdale Gardens just before 9.50pm on Sunday, August 7th. He died at the scene.

Last week detectives appealed for information about three vehicles in the area at the time of the shooting – a silver Renault Megane car, a black Peugeot 307 car and a motorbike.

As a result of their inquiries police said they were no longer interested in the motorbike. However, officers have recovered a silver Renault Megane found partially burnt out at the entrance to an old quarry on Wheelers Road, Lisburn last Tuesday. It is undergoing forensic examination.
