Iran has condemned remarks by US National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, who accused Tehran of supporting terrorism in the Middle East.
"These unfounded remarks are interference", foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said, quoted by state radio.
In an interview with al-Hayat newspaper last Thursday, Rice accused Iran of supporting terrorism, and blamed Tehran for the 1996 killing of 19 Americans in a blast in Saudi Arabia.
"We hope that the American officials make responsible remarks based on exact knowledge of the facts and avoid such unfounded and repetitive statements" the Iranian ministry spokesman said.
Iran and Saudi Arabia, who in April signed a joint security agreement, have both rejected the US charges arising from the blowing up of a US military housing complex in the eastern Saudi city of Khobar.
